Ryde Chess Rapid

Free entry for players registered for the IOW on ECF (Or IOW residents and new to chess). This event is funded by the subs collected at Ryde chess on Fridays.

£10 for none IOW. Event not intended for non-IOW players, but if you are on holiday or nearby and see this, you are welcome to come play.

Capacity strictly limited to the first 30 sign ups. Please let us know if you can no longer attend.

This is a semi casual event but will be ECF Rated OTB Rapid. It's a chance for newer players to gain a Rapid rating and existing players to improve and play each other. It's a lovely venue with a large balcony so feel free to bring a sandwich or a book and enjoy the Solent views. There's a cafe next door with amazing burgers too.

Parking is a bit annoying so you are better off walking from the bus or train station if you can (15 mins). Large paid car park at the rear if not which is around £7 for the day.

No cash prizes. A small trophy will be presented to the 1st place winner in the higher section.

If there are enough players we will play as two groups roughly under and over 1500 ECF rating. You will play in the section relevant to your current rating (Standard/Rapid) or known ability if not rated. If there are less than 15 players, we will play as one group.

Winner decided by 3+2 Blitz playoff if even scores for first.

Sign in by 12.45pm

Pairings made at 12.50pm

Round 1 - 1pm

Round 2 - 2pm

Round 3 - 3pm

Round 4 and bar opens - 4pm

Round 5 - 5pm

No byes allowed, you may withdraw at any time. If you miss round one you will receive 0 points.

You do not need an ECF membership to play in this event as you are able to play a small number of rated Rapid games prior to taking a membership. If you have an ECF Rapid rating and no membership you will be charged £10 fee.
