The Isle of Wight eagerly anticipates welcoming an array of chess talent next February at the Masters, U2000, and Congress tournaments. This week, we are delighted to announce the addition of two formidable players from Switzerland: GM Sebastian Bogner and IM Daniel Fischer. Their participation further strengthens an already impressive field.
The tournament is shaping up to be a perfect opportunity for title and norm seekers, and even better for those who simply enjoy the game. Players and spectators can watch the matches on monitors throughout the venue and observe the top tables in a spacious theatre. The time control is designed to allow U2000 and Congress events conclude before the Masters.

All games in the Masters will be played on DGT LiveBoards and will also be available to follow on chess.com and Lichess. We are hopeful of confirming live commentary for the final rounds, if not for the entire event.
Not sure if you should play the Masters? Don’t let the current high ratings deter you. The tournament has a diverse mix of top players, providing ample opportunities for challengers. It is an open event and we have capacity for 150 players in total. The breakdown we are aiming for:
50 GMs or IMs
80 Players rated 2000 to 2399
20 Players rated 1600 to 1999

But it’s not all about the Masters. If you fancy experiencing a longer tournament, join us from Tuesday 18th February to Friday 21st February for the six-round Holiday U2000 tournament.
All players rated under 2000 FIDE are welcome, and there are rating prizes for everyone, with a total prize fund of £1,500. Additionally, you can take up to two half-point byes, giving you plenty of time to explore the Island.

If you can’t make this, or if you fancy both events, we have five round Congress running from Friday 21st February to Sunday 23rd February. With great prizes for all levels, the total prize pool is £2,000.
Congress Entry is £45 – Register here
We have a large number of DGT LiveBoards available and plan to distribute them across all sections, giving most players a chance to use them and have their games recorded.
The venue is just 22 minutes away by Wightlink Fast Cat boat from Portsmouth Harbour Train Station. All players can enjoy a 20% discount on Wightlink travel, including the Car Ferry. The first 30 sign-ups for the Masters will receive a 50% discount.
Hotels near the venue are available from just £36 per night. However, as we expect a large number of participants, prices are likely to increase as the event approaches.
If you can’t find accommodation in Ryde, there are plenty of options nearby, and you’re never more than 45 minutes from the venue using the excellent local bus service. If you bring your car, there’s a large free car park at the venue.
Newport, the capital of the Island, offers a wide range of hotels and rooms, with a bus service to the venue that takes approximately 30 minutes. On the southern side of the Island, Shanklin and Sandown boast a vast selection of hotels and are about 45 minutes away by bus or train.
Please visit the main tournament page for full travel information and our recommended hotels.
If you have a returning player or any other discount code, please note that these will expire on 1st September. The cost of entry will increase by £10 for all sections on 1st December.
