Vernon Strikes Again: Ryde Rapid 26th August, Results and Games

The unstoppable Harry Vernon is once again victorious at the August Ryde Rapid. An excellent level of play with very high accuracy. Thanks to all players for coming down and we will do this again soon.

Harry defeated Om Gohel in Round 1 and we forgot to plug the LiveBoard in.... No idea how that game went.

Harry continued from Board 1 and was forced to a draw with Tomas Leistrum in Round 2. A very sharp game below:

In Round 3 Harry faced Isle of Wight Junior Riley Cavnor. Riley had an exceptional game and nearly had one of the Islands best players locked into a draw. Some patient play from Harry saw him take the lead and win the end game.

Richard Barnes stepped up for Round 4 and needed the points after losing half a point due to arriving late and starting a fight with a parking attendant (This is not true, traffic was bad). Richard/ Reg gave Harry a good game but couldn't knock him off Board 1.

Newcomer Stuart Nuttall made his way to Board 1 for the final round after some strong play and only being held to a draw by Alex Short in Round 1.

A very cagey game followed, while the rest of us looked on. The game ended in a locked position and a draw was agreed. Stuart and Harry both finished undefeated on 4/5 and tied on even score. As there was no time for playoffs Harry won on tie break.

A great performance from Stuart on his first outing and we look forward to seeing him and other new faces at future events. Congratulations to Harry Vernon who maintains his position Isle of Wight Rapid Champion.

Here's the final table:
